A GUIDE TO MISLABELLED NIRVANA BOOTLEGS: GENERATIONAL MISLABELS

There are an increasing number of mislabelled CDRs circulating. This guide is intended to help prevent the most egregious examples circulating any further. If you find you have any of these items, please change your trade lists and label them as ANA(x)>CDR(x). Please do NOT assume that you have the best version mentioned here, because almost certainly you will not.

04/xx/87 - Any versions claiming to be ANA(2) are mislabels.

12/21/88 - No known gens of this should be going around. The best quality version of this show was surfaced from an old trader who didn't know the gen of it. Supposed ANA(5)>CDR copies are really unknown gens. The best quality version is a unknown generation tape, transfered by Mike Ziegler in 2004.

07/12/89 - Tapes circulating as a genuine source is actually a dub of the video.

07/12/89 - VHS(3) versions of AMT #1 in circulation are actually of unknown generation.

07/18/89 - 32 minutes from a 2nd generation VHS tape is circulating.

11/07/89 - Only a ANA(1) tape is circulating, any ANA(M)s are false. Please do NOT simply assume your ANA(M)>CDR because it almost certainly is not.

11/08/89 - The master tape of this show has now been transferred to CDR and is circulating. Older ANA(3)>CDR versions, which circulated before the master upgrade, are really of unknown generation.

11/08/89 - Any supposed soundboard recordings from this show are just the common audience source.

11/26/89 - Any supposed soundboard recordings from this show are just the common audience source.

04/10/90 - VHS(3) versions of AMT #2 in circulation are actually of unknown generation.

04/16/90 - The person who surfaced this has an ANA(2) tape, which Kris Sproul transferred and circulated. Any copies claiming to be lower gen are false.

04/17/90 - Any supposed soundboard recordings from this show are just the common audience source.

08/24/90 - A 1st generation VHS tape and a 2nd generation tape was transferred and circulated by Mike Ziegler in 2006.

08/25/91 - Any supposed FM soundboard versions on trade lists are just the common audience source.

10/11/90 - In September 2002 the master tape surfaced, replacing older incomplete ANA(x) tapes.

10/26/90 - A 2nd generation tape is in circulating, repalcing older ANA(3)>CDR versions.

10/31/91 - The AUD #1 (Sony WM-D3, ANA(M)>DAT) is actually a DAT source.

10/31/91 - Any supposed ANA(2)>DAT versions are just remastered versions of 'Into The Black (Disc 3)'. Although genuine ANA(2)>CDR versions does exist.

11/14/91 - A 1st generation VHS tape was transfered and circulated in 2005.

11/20/91 - Tapes circulating as a genuine source is actually a dub of the video.

11/30/91 - In October 2002 the master tape was found and transferred to CDR. Older ANA(1)>CDR versions, which circulated before the master upgrade, are really of unknown generation.

01/24/92 - An ANA(2)>CDR version is now circulating. But beware, before this bone fide upgrade appeared there were mislabelled ANA(2)>CDR versions in circulating. Make sure you track down a copy of the real ANA(2).

07/03/92 - In 2003 the master tape was found and transferred to CDR, replacing older ANA(5)>CDR versions.

08/30/92 - Many supposed copies of AUD #1 are actually tape dubs of AMT #2.

08/30/92 - Any DAT>ANA(x) copies of AUD #3 are mislabels. Only ANA(x) is correct.

10/21/93 - This tape was first circulated as ANA(2) but in November 2004 it was discovered that the ANA(2) tape was in fact a first generation tape. This means that many of the ANA(2) versions in circulation are really ANA(1)'s.

10/22/93 - ANA(2)>CDR versions are now in circulation, replacing older ANA(4)>CDR versions wich are really of unknown generation.

11/27/93 - Any supposed soundboard recordings from this show are just the common audience source.

01/07/94 - Any supposed soundboard recordings from this show are just the common audience source.

02/18/94 - We've seen some supposed ANA(M)>CDR copies, but we believe these are false. The lowest gen available is ANA(1).

02/22/94 - All supposed pre-FM versions are mislabels, even the track on "Nightly Nirvana" was taken from a post-FM bootleg.
