Rape Me Again

Live Nirvana Bootography Rating: A  98%

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:
Rape Me Again is one of three titles that were released simultaneously, the Nirvana Bootography found them first available in Japan in late November of 2000. One disc was entitled Digital Nirvana - perhaps a nudge at this site. Rape Me Again may be another joke as it contains the complete 1/7/94 performance which was previously available on one other commercially available title - Rape Me.

So Rape Me Again takes off where Rape Me leaves off. Unlike it's predecessor, Rape Me Again manages to give use the entire 1/7/94 performance ( Rape Me is incomplete) spread across two discs. The sound is a fabulous digital recording made from the audience that is every bit as good as any other 1/7/94 source that is circulating.

They might need to release another disc entitled Rape Me Again And Again in order to correct the disc labeling. The discs are labeled incorrectly, disc "A" is actually the second disc and disc "B" is the first disc. The tracklisting on the back of the inlay is also wrong. All songs are present and in the order they appear on the tracklisting but the numbering and disc numbering are all off.

This is the second to last US performance for the band. There is some stage banter and Kurt tells the audience that they are taking a cigarette break after playing Territorial Pissings, after which he dedicates Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam to Frank Zappa who passed away a month before this concert date. The show is one of the better "In Utero" performances and lasts for nearly 100 minutes!

Despite the tracklisting problem (which is very common among bootleg titles), this is an excellent acquisition for any collector. This is the best commercially available version of this show and as good as any other recording of this date that is circulating.
