THE AUDIOPHILE COMPLETISTS' GUIDE TO NIRVANA BOOTLEGS CDs: 12/28/91
Overall the bootleg 'Live' features the best sounding "complete" version of this show. It was sourced from Andy Wallace's remix of the soundboard recording. Andy Wallace's remix
is circulating in trading circles in slightly more complete form (some extra banter before the start of the show), but it sounds worse that the version on 'Live', probably due to the age of the tape. 'Live' is sourced from a
radio broadcast, and thus is post-FM, whilst the inferior sounding trading version of Wallace's remix is pre-FM. The bootleg 'The Eternal Legacy' features the same post-FM version of Wallace's remix, but in inferior quality
to 'Live'.
However, tracks from the Andy Wallace remix, have been used on official releases and the versions on official
releases do sound better than the 'Live' bootleg.
An unremixed soundboard recording, a monitor mix, is also available in trading circles. Whilst incomplete, it does feature some extra band noise before the start of the show not present on 'Live' and present in inferior quality on the
trading circle version of the Andy Wallace remix.
There are also a number of pre-FM radio CDs. However, although these are pre-FM, they generally sound much worse than 'Live' because radio CDs are mastered to sound good over the radio, but not home systems. Different radio discs have aired
different amounts of the show and some radio discs have found there way onto bootlegs. All such bootlegs should be avoided because of the aforementioned inferior sound quality of radio discs. Some of these bootlegs include: 'Pissing In Action', 'Louder', 'Psychotic Reaction', 'Lithium',
'Smells Like', 'Smells Like ... (Vol 2)', 'San Diego 91', 'Territorial Possession', 'Tribute To Kurt Cobain Vol. 5 - Soundboard Recording Live 1991', 'Live Vol 1', 'In Memoriam Kurt Cobain', 'See You Soon', 'Superstar Concert Series', '... And Nobody Got Hurt', 'Aqua Seafoam Shame', 'EU Uberalles', and 'Live At Duffy's'.
