Before And After The Storm

Live Nirvana Bootography Rating:

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:
"Before and After The Storm" contains two excellent shows, Reading 1991 and the 6/27/92 Ruisrock show. They are both solid audience recordings.

During Reading there are a few points where the wind picks up and you can hearing blowing through the recorder's microphone (It is like that on all versions). Both of the Reading shows (Reading '91 and '92) are brilliant! There is a short cover of the Doors 'The End' which is pretty funny but the highlight of the first show is when Eugene Kelly (of the Vaselines) sings "Molly's Lips" with Kurt. This is the best commercially released version of the Reading 1991 show. Once the complete pro shot video surfaces then all these audience recordings will become obsolete.

Sadly the Ruisrock Festival is incomplete, but does offer a rare "Swap Meet" and a funny lyric change in "Smells Like Teen Spirit" where Kurt substitutes "Hello, hello, hello, how low" with "evenflow evenflow evenflow evenflow, uh hu uh hu uh hu uh hu." The sound of this show is comparable to the rarer and complete "World Without End" double CD.
The 6/27/92 tracks must have been EQ-ed as they sound a LOT better than the trading circle ANA(M)>DAT, I don't have a copy but i assume "World without end" sounds the same.
For everything you would ever want to know about the Ruisrock Festival show please visit Heina's site NO RECESS! and visit her Finland section.

"Before And After The Storm" is a very solid disc. The sound quality of the recordings make it a "bootlegger only" type of CD (people who aren't used to audience recordings won't appreciated it).

* Please note that this title has been pressed many times. The disc pictured in the Nirvana Bootography is the first known pressing and many later pressings have subtle differences, particularly with the CD artwork.

"Endless, Nameless" Labeled As "Here I Am"
