NIRVANA TRADER DATABASE: BLANK TRADES

Introduction:

"So how I am I supposed to set up a trade with anyone when I don't have anything to trade yet?", you may be wondering. "Do I have to ask traders to sell me CDRs?"

No, you don't have to buy anything. Remember, the buying and selling of unauthorized recordings is not only ILLEGAL, but it is an unethical and this practice is not tolerated by the NIRVANA community.

We hope someone on this list of kind and generous people can help you out for in your quest for NIRVANA material. These people might, out of the kindness of their hearts, agree to a "blank" trade, where you send some blank CDRs, and they return them with some audio material burned on them.

We do urge you to be very patient with these people - after all, they are doing you a favour, and be polite. Please don't take advantage of these people, their time is limited, don't ask for more than half a dozen items, and please leave "filler" (extra items on a CD) at the discretion of the trader. Also please remember these people might be busy, so don't be offended if they decline a blank trade.

We suggest you start by contacting people in your part of the world first to minimise postage costs.

There are two types of "blank" trade; (a) Blanks and Postage ("B+P") and (b) 2 : 1 (2 blanks : 1 returned)

(a) Blanks and Postage

This is the best method of blank trading when you live in the same country. When someone agrees to do a B+P with you, here is a step-by-step guide of what to do.

Ask the trader how many CDRs the material you have requested takes up. Ask the trader if he would prefer any particular brand of CDRs.
Go and buy the blank CDRs.
Buy a padded mailer (jiffy bag) which can hold the blanks and address it to yourself. DO NOT SEAL IT.
Buy a manila envelope large enough to contain the padded bag, and write the address of the trader on it. DO NOT SEAL IT YET.
Take both envelpoes to the Post Office. Let them weigh the unsealed padded bag, buy the right amount of stamps, and stick them on the padded bag.
Next, put the STILL UNSEALED padded bag in the manila envelope, and seal the manila (outer) envelope. Weigh it, and buy the stamps for it.
Put the parcel in the post box, or hand it to the assistant.

If you followed all that, you will appreciate that all the trader helping you out has to do is copy the CDRs, staple, and drop in the mailbox, i.e. he won't have to go to the Post Office.

If you live in different countries, you must use International Reply Coupons to cover the return postage.

(b) 2:1

In this sort of trade, for every two blank CDRs / tapes / videos you send, the trader will return one to you, and keep the other one of the blanks to cover his postage expenses.

This is therefore appropriate if you live in a different country from the trader.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

Agree with the trader what brand of blanks you are going to send. You must remember to do this; some traders are very particular about what brands they use.
Find out from the trader how many blanks the material you asked for needs.
Send the trader double the required number of blanks.

Some traders ask for 3:1s. This is generally felt to be unreasonable, so don't bother dealing with that trader, choose someone else on the list.

NOTES:

If you set up a blank trade, it is expected that you will offer the same courtesy to others.

DO NOT SELL ANY RECORDINGS, under any circumstances, that you acquire through a blank trade. If you do, (and believe me we will find out), you will be added immediately to the Bad Traders List. Note membership of this list is refused to those already on the Bad Traders List.
