Live Nirvana Bootography Rating:

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:
This is a very unique show and the artwork is a gem... As always, KTS does an excellent job as far as packaging goes. The show sound quality is perfect... comparable to Roma '94. Unfortunately, the performance is edited between some of the songs, cutting out some banter such as the "techno" jam, which can be heard on the preferred discs for this show ("Kurko" and "Bang Tango"), there's also several small skips throughout the show, this problem is not present on the other discs. All commercial releases are missing the first two songs and the encore. The MTV studio tracks fade in and out at the beginnings and ends of the tracks. Not a tragedy, but annoying anyway.

You can hear Dave yelling "Hi Axl!!!" or "Bye Axl!" repeatedly at the end of the MTV music awards performance. He was obviously making fun of Axl Rose, who had caused the band some grief backstage. For the entire story, read "Come As You Are" p.276. It's pretty funny... this is the same performance where Krist throws his bass in the air and it hits himself in the head. Unfortunately, the track is missing the "Rape Me" tease intro and as all bootleg versions it is mono.

The Buenos Aires show is a riot!! The band screws up many of songs on purpose, including stopping "Smells Like Teen Spirit", 20 seconds into the song and refusing to play it the rest of the night. Earlier, the crowd had thrown bottles and stones at Nirvana's guest opening act "Calamity Jane." Kurt is pissed, and dictates the direction of the show on a whim (he didn't use a standard set list). He screws around with the opening chords to let Dave and Krist know what he wants to play next... including a rare performance of Beeswax. Kurt sings the first verse of "Come As You Are" with hey, hey, hey,hey.. (a hey for every syllable). Dave and Krist get into the action also... Dave plays a toy drum set during Polly, and chants "A, E, O" over and over during his and Krist's solo. The entire bass solo is a joke, and the poor Argentinean audience doesn't sound like they know the band is screwing with them. The sound is excellent and the show is one that you'll want listen to over and over again.
