Seattle Sound, Sounds Great

Live Nirvana Bootography Rating: A  92%

Live Nirvana Bootography Review:
This is the best sounding complete version of this show. Sadly, it has been edited between a few of the songs to remove DJ talk (it's sourced from the first radio broadcast on RAI). It is a average "Nevermind" era show and there are better shows out their like "Dressed For Success", "Trick Or Treat", or "Had It All". The highlights are a very early "Rape Me" and a nice "Spank Thru" which was beginning to become phased out of the newer Nirvana set lists.

This is a fairly common show that is available on different discs, so every collector should be able to pick it up. This disc contains pictures from actual show (few bootlegs do this). Curiously, Insect got the names right on the back of the inlay, but got Krist and Dave mixed up inside of the cover. The artwork, while not spectacular, is above average and has an attractive layout.

There have been multiple pressings of this disc.

*** JWB had this to add:

Not only are there edits in between songs which sometimes affect the beginnings
of songs, but "Spank Thru" is edited! The second chorus edits into the last
chorus, bypassing a full chorus and the guitar solo. I thought that this was how
the song actually went for a *long time*, until I bought Sub Pop 200 and got a
surprise. Then I saw the video of this show and found out that the performance
was edited on this disc. That's how I noticed it and also why I remember.

Ironically, the complete performance of "Spank Thru" was the only cut from this
show to appear on the official live album.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of this disc, although a video of an
MTV Europe re-broadcast has surfaced with much better (remixed?) sound quality.
There are questionable edits, dropouts and "warbling" on this disc and the sound
is pretty flat. I bought this disc in April 1992.

"Seattle Sound, Sounds Great" was repressed/counterfeited in 2004 or 2005, the main difference is that the picture disc is black, with a yellow "smiley".

There is also a Vinyl version of this release
